BCSE held the annual event “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality”

On March 7, 2023, in celebration of International Women’s Day, the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange held the annual event “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality”, which marked the grand opening of the trading day.

In his opening speech, Andrei Aukhimenia, Chairman of the Board of the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange, noted the contribution of the Republic of Belarus to ensuring gender equality for sustainable economic development and growth. In 2022, the Republic of Belarus ranked 36th in the world among 146 countries in the overall ranking of the gender gap. At the same time, for the successful achievement of gender equality, informal measures, in addition to formal ones, aimed at changing culture, thinking and behavior both in society and in the family in particular are also important.

The Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange pursues a consistent policy aimed at ensuring equal participation of women in the management bodies of the exchange, preventing gender discrimination in matters of remuneration and career growth. Today, women own half of the seats in the Supervisory Board of the exchange, 42% of the BCSE divisions heads are women.

The event was held to support UN Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative, which currently includes 122 world exchanges, in partnership between such international structures as UN Global Compact, UN Women, International Finance Corporations, World Federation of Exchanges and Women in ETFs as global partners.

This year, 122 of the world’s largest stock exchanges announced holding similar events dedicated to the opening/closing of trading.
