BUCE reports record timber sales to China

Over 30 000 cubic meters of sawn timber (shipped in containers, CFR) to the tune of 8.8 million USD were sold to China as a result of the latest special trading session held on BUCE. The trades took place on June 16, 2021, and are the largest that have been held so far.

With the support of the Ministry of Forestry, BUCE has been hosting special trading sessions since December 2020 in a bid to divert some of its timber exports from the EU to other promising regions. The main peculiarity of the special trades is that timber sellers indicate several delivery points in their offers thus enabling buyers to choose the most convenient location for collecting the goods. As a rule, these are large seaports and railway stations.

“Special trading sessions have become an efficient tool for attracting Chinese companies to BUCE’s electronic trading platform. Now we have a total of 45 registered residents of China. Many of them are major importers that use the exchange trades to purchase the required amount of sawn timber. On the other hand, for Belarusian exporters – both state-run and private – this is an opportunity to tap into the vast Chinese market. Within 5 months of 2021, thanks to BUCE’s special trading sessions, Belarusian sawmills earned 8.З million USD and 17.2 million USD including the latest trades. For comparison: in 2020, total timber sales to China via BUCE stood at 12.8 million USD,” BUCE press service reported.
