Forum in Minsk to bring together exchanges of CIS, Asia, Middle East, South America

Forum in Minsk to bring together exchanges of CIS, Asia, Middle East, South America

Plans are in place to hold the general annual meeting of members of the International Association of Exchanges of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS IAEx), due in Minsk on 17 May, in an expanded format and invite the exchanges that are not members of the IAEx. This decision was made on 10 March following an online conference that brought together the heads of the largest exchange platforms in Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other member countries of the IAEx to discuss the development of commodity and financial markets of the CIS countries, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange.

Inviting representatives of the exchanges from Asia, the Middle East and South America to the exchange forum will not only enhance the status of the event and give it a greater international status but also create prerequisites for the expansion of the IAEx beyond the CIS, said Aleksandr Osmolovsky, Chairman of the Board of Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE).

“While preparing for the annual meeting of the IAEx, we decided not to limit the participation to the IAEx members only and will invite the exchanges of Pakistan, Serbia, China and Turkey. Of course, this is not the final list. For example, the Iran Mercantile Exchange, which has a memorandum of cooperation with the Belarusian exchange, will surely be interested in attending the forum in Belarus. The BRICS countries also have mercantile, currency and stock exchanges and are ready to share their experience and expertise with their counterparts from the CIS. Thus, the IAEx of CIS meeting in Minsk will not only become more representative but will also contribute to attracting new members to the association from different regions of the world. I am sure that the policy of maximum openness will add an additional impetus to development of our exchange community,” said Aleksandr Osmolovsky.

Apart from the forthcoming forum in Minsk the participants of the online conference discussed the current situation and main tendencies on stock markets of the CIS countries. The parties exchanged opinions on minimizing risks in the adverse geopolitical situation, considered proposals to intensify inter-exchange cooperation and outlined perspective areas for joint work.
